Farewell to Instructor Lisi!!

This week we say goodbye to one of our long standing PADI Scuba Instructors Lisi.  Austrian born Lisi Aichberger has been with us at Blue Marlin since January2013, when she initially enrolled for a couple of fun dives before deciding to take her PADI Rescue Diver course with us.  At that time she was travelling around on a world tour and had only intended to be in Gili Trawangan for a few days.  After a little bit of convincing from instructor Kiwi Mike, it wasn’t long before Lisi decided to extend her stay on Gili Trawangan and signed up to take her PADI Divemaster training.  Lisi spent about two months training as a Divemaster under Mike’s experienced tuition and a month or so practicing her guiding skills before deciding she still wanted more and subsequently enrolled on her PADI instructor course here also with our Course Director Holly.

Following her instructor course, there were no vacancies at Blue Marlin Dive but fortunately for Lisi, as a native German speaker, with great marketing skills from a previous role to add to her diving resume, Lisi was quickly offered an amazing opportunity to take a job as a dive instructor in the beautiful Maldives.

Lisi spent six months working there at an exclusive resort, where she developed her teaching skills, and got to dive some more amazing parts of the world before she got “homesick” and decided she wanted to return to her family here at Blue Marlin Dive in Gili Trawangan.  Lisi returned to us shortly before Christmas 2013 and we soon began the process of organising her working visa so that she could become one of the full-time staff here at Blue Marlin Dive.  Luckily by then a position had arisen for a German speaking instructor and we needed to add a bit of female instruction to the male heavy team!!

Since then Lisi has been a major part of the furniture around Blue Marlin Dive.  During her time here at Gili Trawangan, Lisi has taught more hundred’s of people to gain their PADI certifications, possibly brought another couple of hundred students on their first ever discover scuba diving experience, and mentored  several divemaster trainees, including Carmen, who is currently here and may someday fulfill Lisi’s role as our resident German speaking instructor.

A keen underwater photgrapher, Lisi also has a good eye for pictures, and has contributed some of her wonderful shots to our facebook page.  She has used her creativity to help design many snorkel test costumes for our divemaster trainee graduates and partied on the Blue Marlin dance floor til the early hours more than once!!!  Lisi has built friendships with many of her students here at Blue Marlin and some have even have returned this week to say goodbye and enjoy her last week together with her on board the Ikan Biru liveaboard in Komodo National Park as Lisi says goodbye to Indonesia and and looks forward to pastures afresh.  She has had many student recommendations on forums such as trip advisor praising her teaching abilities and fun personality as a scuba diving instructor.

It is with a sorry heart that we say goodbye to Lisi but we wish her the best of successes as she begins her new role on an exotic island of Fiji, where she will again pass on her love of scuba diving to her new guests.  Her evolvement as a Scuba diving instructor from Trawangan to the Maldives back to Gili and now to Fiji surely demonstrates the opportunities out there for those willing to take risks and seize opportunities as they arise, and typifies the “dream of the travelling scuba diving instructor”. Best of luck Lisi from all your family at Blue Marlin Dive Gili Trawangan 😉
